This is a recording of an interview with a Waikato Times reporter after David Godfrey, a mature student who worked for Security Service, had been identified publicly as a 'spy'.
1. Student magazine Outspoke has published a story about the existence of [David] Godfrey. Professor Chapman is interviewed about the process the University followed in order to get fair treatment for both sides.Also how Mr Godfrey was admitted to the course. Comment on the press reports about the affair. (Waikato Times Reporter unnamed).
-- 2. At 21:00 Dr. Ruth Butterworth is asked about academic freedom after Mr Shand's comments and if people could continue teaching at a university in that atmosphere.
In early May a student journal, Outspoke, published a front page article, ‘OUR MAN IN PRINCES STREET’, revealing that Godfrey had attempted to spy on two visiting Russian students and was interested in the students who were enrolling for a trip to China and Russia.
